Steps to Recover Flash Card after Format Error

Flash cards are the most common type of removable storage media, which are mainly used to store digital information. Memory cards use flash memory to store digital data. Flash memory is a type of non-volatile memory chip, which retains its data even when the power is turned off i.e. flash memory, does not require electricity to retain its stored data. Hence memory cards are also called as flash memory cards. SD (Secure Digital) cards, MMC (Multi Media Card), XD (Extreme Digital) cards, CF (Compact Flash) cards are the different types of flash memory cards. Generally, flash memory cards are used by digital cameras. Actually, digital cameras have small amount of internal memory that is able to store only 10-25 photos. Therefore, to store large number of photos, digital cameras make use of external memory in the form of flash memory cards. A flash memory card doesn’t have any moving parts like hard drives thus they are less vulnerable to mechanical damages. Sometimes memory cards have to suffer from various errors and faults due to which it needs to be formatted after which user have to suffer from severe data loss which becomes hard to recover. The best way to recover data from unformatted SD card is quite easy, simple and just a click away.

Although these flash cards have several advantages, they also have their own disadvantage like they are more susceptible for data loss due to logical failures such as file system corruption, memory card corruption, virus attack etc. Photos stored on flash cards can be transferred to computer by connecting it via card reader. Sometimes, when you are trying to access photos from flash card it may display error message like “Drive is not formatted, would you like to format it now?” These types of problems are generally referred to as format errors. Generally, this type of error occurs when file system of flash card gets corrupted In such situations, you can perform damaged flash card recovery by using a good recovery tool. File system may get corrupted due to virus attack, power failures, abruptly removing flash card while transferring photos, suddenly switching off the digital camera while saving photos etc. This type of error does not allow you to access photos from flash cards resulting in photo loss.

Sometimes, your camera may also encounter error message like “Format Error C:13:01”, “E:61:00 error” etc. If your camera has faulty CCD (Charge Coupled Device) or if you have inserted unformatted memory card then these error messages may occur. When these errors occur, your camera may not be able to write or read data on the memory card. If you are facing these errors due to faulty CCD then it is a hardware problem. The best possible way to tackle such kind of issues is to make use of provided software by wasting minimal amount of time.

If these errors are due to unformatted memory card or improper formatting of flash card then to fix this error you need to format the flash card. But, do not format the flash card and stop using it immediately to avoid permanent loss of photos. This is because formatting erases all the contents of flash card. You may get many errors on the flash card due to file system corruption, improper usage of the card, etc. In such situations, you need recovery tool for Compact Flash card error recovery
